Carl Edwards - #99 Fastenal/Ups/Subway/Aflac Ford, 10th season with team
Crew Chief - Jimmy Fennig 1st season with 99 team ( 16th season as a crew chief at Roush Fenway Racing)
What's new - Jimmy Fennig replaces Bob Osborne/Chad Norris as crew chief on the #99 team

Man out of time

Cousin Carl Edwards has a personality that's larger than life. It's virtually impossible not to like the Missouri native. A fan favorite on the NASCAR Sprint Cup circuit since he arrived full time on the tour in 2005. Over that time span one word can sum up Carl's Sprint Cup career inconsistent. Carl came within an eyelash of winning the Sprint Cup title in 2011 only to completely fall flat out of the title picture in 2012. That monumental drop in the standings left many in the NASCAR community wondering what happened to Carl Edwards? Was losing the title by such a close margin to Tony Stewart in 2011 enough to unravel Carl's 2012 momentum? Carl will have to pick up the slack in 2013 at Roush Fenway Racing with the departure of Matt Kenseth likely to have an adverse impact on team morale. Essentially Roush Fenway Racing is now Carl Edward's team, and he must find a way to get back into championship form. The addition of long time Roush Fenway Racing veteran crew chief Jimmy Fennig to the #99 team should be a favourable option for a reeling Edwards. Fennig was the driving force behind Kurt Busch winning the 2004 NASCAR Sprint Cup title. Fennig was also instrumental in turning around Matt Kenseth career over the past two seasons. It remains to be seen if he can do the same for Carl Edwards, but expect them to gel rather quickly. If he gets hot at any point in the 2013 season there's no telling how effective this duo can be come November. Regardless of how Carl runs in 2013 it's time for him to put 2011 behind him and focus on getting back into championship mode not only for 2013 but beyond that as well. Expectations are high for Carl to make the 2013 chase and make another strong run at the Sprint Cup championship.

Bold Prediction - Carl Edwards wins 4 races in 2013 after winning no races in 2012
The skinny
Wins - 4
