So sue me for copyright infringement! Go ahead, make my day! OK, so it's not that original of a series; most of the scriptwriters were lifted from WCW.
The last week or so the race comments have been filled up by justifiably angry fans over recent idiocies made by NASCAR, SPEED, and ESPN. ESPN is digusting pile of garbage, so we will ignore them.
Let's make this clear... NASCAR is lost. It's going down the swillhole faster than we could imagine, and Brain France and his toadies continue to make the drain pipe wider and more efficient at flushing than we could imagine. Seriously, do we believe what we watch anymore? I for one lost my faith in NASCAR completely in 2004 (more on that later), and now question the veritability of the sport back to 2001, as well as several other scattered races throughout the years, particularly the 1985 Daytona 500. I am aware that most of the earlier cases are DEI, but recently not so much.
Let's just open the can of worms here:
2001- Rockingham, Atlanta, Daytona, Dover: Steve Park wins the 1st race after Dale Earnhardt dies. Park, coincidentally driving the 1 for DEI, wins on ancient tires at the track regarded as the second worst on tires after only Darlington. Then Kevin Harvick wins the 3-rd race after the driver of the 3 dies, and Harvick happens to be the replacement driver in the 3. We move to Daytona, where DEI gets a 1-2 finish in the first race at the track since Dale Earnhardt's death, with Dale Jr. leading the way (this leads into something else later). Fast forward to September. We have the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and in respect of the downtrodden nation (I still wish we nuked them for that) just about every major sports league, both American and international, stopped play for a week. Champ Car didn't, and we almost lost Alex Zanardi as a result. First NASCAR race back, and who wins none other than NASCAR's golden boy, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Look at his stats... Dale SUCKS there.
This brings us to the next line:
2001-2005 (yes, 2005) Restrictor plate races:
After Dale Earnhardt's death, DEI managed to somehow go on a run from July 2001 to October 2004 where the team almost never won at the Cup or Busch level unless it was a plate race. During that time the only plate races that weren't won by Dale Earnhardt, Jr. or Michael Waltrip were the flukes by Ward Burton and Greg Biffle, and Jeff Gordon's two 2004 plate wins. During this time DEI drivers couldn't even lead laps except at plate tracks. It was bad. The culmination is Dale Earnhardt, Jr. winning the 3rd Daytona 500 after his dad, the driver of the 3, dies there. Tony Stewart even admitted he raced to push Dale Jr. to the win. Coincidence happens too much in this sport. That 2004 Aaron's 499? I don't NASCAR rigged that Jeff Gordon won, but I think they deliberately set up that finish so that they'd have an excuse for the green-white-checkered. Add to that list the 2005 Daytona 500. A bit too coincidental that Hendrick wins the first Daytona 500 after that plane crash.
I know this sounds strange coming from a Jeff Gordon fan, but I am sorry, but I don't believe a single one of those wins since October 2004 to present. I just don't buy it. NASCAR gets wind of the Hendrick plane crash, and bam suddenly after running mid-pack all day Jimmie Johnson passes every car in the joint and wins. Next thing we know, Jimmie has 8 Martinsville wins and Jeff has two more. I still ain't buying. Prior to that, Jimmie was one of the very short track racers out there, and Hendrick's Martinsville cars weren't worth crap even after extensive restoration. I don't buy it, especially the way drivers seem to intentionally pull over to let Hendrick's guys pass there. Then we have Denny Hamlin there. I will give Hamlin credit for his short track prowess... to an extent. His short track abilities are strangely limited to the confines of his chosen (not really his home state, he's a Floridiot actually) homestate... He sucks horribly at Bristol, but can win at Martinsville and Richmond with a team that, much like Hendrick, wasn't worth $#!* on the short tracks.
2009 Pocono: Denny Hamlin wins... his grandmother just happened to die the week before.
2003-2005 Charlotte: They really expect us to buy that Jimmie Johnson truly won those races at LOWE's Motor Speedway in the LOWE's car? Let's analyze the case of the 2005 races. Joe Nemechek is leading with about 10 laps to go; Jimmie is outside the top-5. Nemechek has a FLAT TIRE, spins out, and keeps going, and they RED FLAGGED the f-ing race!!!! How much more deliberate could you get? They HAD to do that because if they didn't Jimmie stood no chance of winning that race on a two lap dash. Throughout these events they kept talking about "Jimmie's fresher tires" on the broadcast... Jimmie had pitted at the same time as the "older tire" cars. What?! Then in the fall we have NASCAR deliberately tamper with the dominant car of Michael Waltrip and throw a series of mystery cautions.
2010 Sonoma: compare this one to the fall Phoenix in 2006. Same scenario; two different rulebooks.
2007 Sonoma: still haven't figured out how Montoya made it to the end of the race when Larry MacReynolds on the broadcast mathematically proved that Montoya could not make it on fuel mileage no matter what he did. He got something like 2-4 more laps than he should have gotten running in fuel-save mode.
2004 Atlanta: Greg Biffle intentionally blocks Mark Martin, his own teammate, so that Jimmie could win. Biffle even admitted this!
These are just the most obvious cases. Honestly, I don't buy any of the races. There are a lot of things that just don't sit well with me. When the announcers are harping on a particular driver for whatever sob-story reason, he ALWAYS wins.
