Every week I like to go through the coming weekend's schedule to see when everything I want to watch is on TV. As usual, I had some interesting observations and I thought I would share them with you. We've only got two weekends left until the offseason, so I'm sure we all want to get in as much racing as we can!
Today (Thursday) the Truck series runs both practice sessions, but neither are on TV - unless Fox Sports 2 is airing it and my provider doesn't have it, so I can't tell. However if you want your racing fix today, Global RallyCross is racing in Las Vegas on ESPN2 at 6:00pm (Central time) near where the SEMA show is being held right now. Steve Arpin, Scott Speed, Travis Pastrana and other notable names have run that series this year and I know for sure that at least Steve Arpin will be racing.
On Friday I am very pleased to say that Fox Sports 1 is having continual NASCAR coverage from 11am (all times are Central) until 3:30pm starting with Nationwide practice followed by Cup practice and Nationwide final practice. Truck qualifying (3:30pm) and Cup qualifying (4:40pm) both aren't on FS1 or any ESPN channel. I'm sure Fox Sports 2 will be airing them, but looking at TVguide.com, I can see no reason at all that Cup qualifying couldn't be shown on ESPN! Truck race coverage starts at 7pm on FS1, but we don't get any prerace because of a basketball game that starts at 5. I only hope that game doesn't run long or else it may be a bit iffy of seeing the start of the Truck race - the green flag is supposed to fall at approximately 7:18pm.
Saturday is looking much more promising than most weekends! Typically football dominates every sports channel available, but this week from 10:30 in the morning until the Nationwide race finishes around 5:30pm we'll be able to watch on track action to our hearts' desire! Cup practice goes from 10:30-11:30am on Fox Sports 1 followed by Nationwide qualifying, a half hour 'NASCAR Live!' show at 1pm and Cup final practice until 2:30. Then if you switch over to ESPN2, it's time for some Nationwide racing! The bonus here is, unlike last week, we actually get a prerace show - and we shouldn't be in any danger of missing the start of the race though a bit may be cut off of the prerace if the preceding football game goes long. That football game starts at 11 and is followed by a half hour football show before 'NASCAR Countdown', so we should be in good shape!
Sunday's lineup doesn't look as amazing as last week's where NASCAR RaceDay flowed right into ESPN's coverage with NASCAR Victory Lane following the race immediately on FS1. This time around 'RaceDay' (once again only 1 hour long) starts FOUR whole hours before ESPN coverage does, though we'll get a one hour prerace before the race. And while we don't get any 'NASCAR Victory Lane' to speak of, ESPN2 will wrap up the day at 9pm (again, Central time) with a one hour show. Nice to see they try to take care of postrace where Fox can't consistently fit us and our sport in anymore.
And good news for next week's 'NASCAR Race Hub' shows, they will all be on at the same time Monday-Thursday from 3-4pm! That's different from this week where the times varied, but matches the schedule from 2 weeks earlier. NASCAR Now will also keep consistent times, but only very early in the morning (12:30-1am) and only on Wednesday and Thursday (the shows that I assume would typically air for Tuesday and Wednesday. Just curious - does anyone watch NASCAR Now anymore?
