"The official guaranteed starting spots, I think"

We might have a final word on this. The points for the #98 are transferred to the #44 from last year, which would give them a better starting position in case qualifying is cancelled.
The points for the #96 and #98 go to the #37 and #38 teams. This is huge for Front Row Motorsports with Yates Racing, as they have come to be known after the agreement. It gives them a chance to have three teams in the Top 35 all season long if they can make it stick.
The loser in this deal is the #82 with Scott Speed. It is not locked in for the first five races and must qualify and stay in the Top 35 in order to not have to qualify in race number six.
The #71 with Bobby Labonte does not have a guaranteed spot being outside the Top 35, but will get into the first five races by way of the past champion's provisional. He also needs to be in the Top 35 after the first five races in order to not have to use the provisional starting in the sixth race.
I am glad that we seem to finally have this resolved. It will be interesting to follow all season long.
