My previous post lists the non-locked in cars ranked by their qualifying speed. The top four cars on that list are locked into the field, but not by speed, yet. If Bill Elliott, Scott Speed or Joe Nemechek are in the top two on that list in one of the Duel races, then Bobby Labonte is locked in through his speed, which means that Michael Waltrip would also be guaranteed a start. This is due to the fact that the past champion's provisional would not need to be used, which would create another spot for a car on speed. There are many different ways of explaining this, I must admit. This is my way of doing it.
